Job Title Accountant (1 Position)
Location Mombasa, KENYA
Department Finance and Administration
Reports to Finance and Admin Lead
What it entails?
The incumbent will be responsible for the preparation, accuracy, and timely delivery of financial reports and statutory returns in compliance with applicable guidelines, and internal policies.
The role plays a key part in maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, ensuring compliance, and supporting budgeting and audits. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Job Duties:
- Record, review, and reconcile daily financial transactions
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Maintain the general ledger and verify accuracy of financial entries.
- Reconcile key ledger accounts and ensure completeness and accuracy of financial data
- Process accounts payable, accounts receivable, and expense claims
- Support the preparation and submission of statutory tax returns (e.g., VAT, PAYE, WHT, income tax) in collaboration with the payment team.
- Ensure proper documentation and compliance with tax laws and deadlines
- Support internal and external audits by compiling necessary documents.
- Coordinate with relevant departments to gather audit documentation.
- Ensure timely completion and resolution of audit findings and recommendations
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, monitor budget performance, rolling forecasts, and variance analysis
- Maintain organized digital and physical financial records
- Assist in cash flow management and financial forecasting
- Support implementation and monitoring of internal controls to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial reporting
- Actively contribute towards achievement of company business objectives.
- Network, identify, explore and facilitate opportunities for business growth
Job Requirement:
- Proven experience working as an Accountant or similar finance role
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, standards, and tax regulations
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks and/or ERP systems)
- Advanced Excel skills, including formulas and financial analysis tools
- Excellent accuracy, analytical skills, and problem-solving ability
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and multitask
- High level of confidentiality and professional ethics
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Professional certifications (CPA) is an added advantage
Physical Demands:
- Ability to work for extended periods at a computer workstation
- Occasional lifting of files, documents, or office supplies
- Ability to move between filing areas or storage spaces as needed
Salary:
- Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience
